Human or agent: the question nobody answers.

Every open role in 2026 has the same debate. The market gives you people or software. Nobody helps you pick.

A hiring manager sat across from me last week and asked a question I've heard every week for a year. The company had an SDR role open. Should they hire a person, or deploy an AI agent, or both? They already had budget for either. What they didn't have was anyone who would help them decide.

The recruiting agency they were talking to had said: hire a person. Of course they had. Recruiting agencies place people. That's the whole product.

The AI SDR vendor they were also talking to had said: deploy an agent. Of course they had. AI SDR vendors sell agents. That's the whole product.

Neither one had said: it depends. Neither one had walked through the ICP shape, the buying-committee complexity, the deliverability history, or the ramp cost. Neither one had a business model that let them say the honest thing.

That's the gap Talento was built to fill.

The pitch is small: we're the one system that scopes every open role, decides with you whether the work needs a human, an AI agent, or a mix, and then delivers what you decided on. We carry both. We're not selling people. We're not selling software. We're selling the decision plus the delivery, both under one retainer.

The reason this matters right now is that 2026 is the first year where the honest answer is genuinely different across roles. In 2023, an AI SDR agent was mostly a demo. In 2024, it was a slightly-better outbound tool with an LLM inside. In 2026, it's genuinely competitive with a mid-tier human SDR on cost per meeting at high volume. It's still not competitive on nuanced discovery, executive multi-threading, or any conversation that needs judgment. But those weren't the only workloads. Some of the outbound job really is agent-shaped now.

That means hiring managers have to make a real decision on every role. And most of them are not equipped to. They know their business, they know their sales motion, they don't have deep knowledge of what modern AI agents can and can't do. They're not going to spend a month learning the state of AI SDR tooling to make one hire. They shouldn't have to.

Talento is the head of talent who does have that knowledge and makes the decision with them. Fifteen-minute intake. Role scoped. Recommendation delivered. Then the placement, the build, or the mix, all under one retainer and a 30-day fit window.

The thing I want to be clear about is that this is not an ideological position on AI. Talento doesn't push agents. Talento doesn't push humans. Talento asks: what does this specific work actually need? For a narrow-ICP enterprise sales motion, the answer is almost always a human. For a wide-ICP top-of-funnel motion, the answer is usually an agent, or a hybrid where the agent handles volume and the human handles reply triage. For an operations role that needs cross-team coordination, the answer is a human every time. For a research role that needs to source and enrich thousands of accounts weekly, the answer is an agent every time.

The market keeps trying to make this a religious question. It isn't. It's an operations question with an answer that depends on the shape of the work.

The reason nobody else asks the question this way is that everyone else is optimizing for their own supply. If your inventory is people, every role needs a person. If your inventory is software, every role needs software. Talento's inventory is the decision and the delivery, which means we can honestly say what fits, because we're paid either way.

This is why we lead with case studies over marketing copy. PRN+ needed dedicated humans on the phone. We placed two. MediRec needed an engineer who could ship a platform in a month. We placed one. Workplace Safety needed forecastable pipeline across three channels with no in-house SDR team. We ran the SDR motion. Same team, different answer, same retainer.

If you're reading this and you have an open role, the invitation is simple. Book intake. Fifteen minutes. We'll pick the shape with you, then deliver in a week. No pitch on which side is better. No pressure to pick software over people or people over software. The question we care about is what the work actually needs. That's what a head of talent does. Talento is that, delivered as a service.

If you want the intake, it's here: /contact/. If you want the receipts first, the case studies are here: /case-studies/.

Ready when you are

Book the intake.

Fifteen minutes with a real head of talent. We'll pick human, agent, or mix with you, then deliver.
